Why are people putting their lives at unnecessary risk?

Why are people getting on poorly ventilated buses with COVID circulating in the air without wearing masks?

Why are doctors and nurses working in poorly ventilated hospitals crammed with patients sick with COVID and other airborne respiratory viral illness and not wearing masks and even at times actively being disruptive to measures which will keep them safe?

Well the answer is doctors and nurses, like people on the bus are humans (homo sapiens) too.

While we don't post much about social psychology we feel this video quickly gets to the heart (and mind of the matter).

Homo sapiens mind evolved over many years. We were able to overcome the stronger and larger brained Neanderthal through an evolved trait - the ability to collectively believe in concepts (religions etc).

This allowed us to come together in much greater numbers and overcome any opposition.

However that same evolved homo sapiens trait at times places us in grave danger.

We will go to our own deaths rather than stand out from the crowd.

Until we are more aware of this how well placed are we to look after ourselves, let alone one another?

Another great video presentation link here (broken down with smaller amusing videos) from the PatientSafe Network illustrating the issue and what can be done about it: https://www.psnetwork.org/us-the-problem-the-solution/
